Timing is everything and now is her time but, that’s not the only reason.
Is it unfortunate that we had to go through the fire swamp first and encounter massive rodents, quicksand and fire spurts? - yes, that was hell for us. But once you make it through the fire swamp do you choose to go through it AGAIN? Do you really want to wrestle a rat for four more years?
In 2016, at 5 o’clock in the morning on November 9th I sat on my bed in disbelief that I would have to wake up my two girls in a couple hours for school to tell them Hillary Clinton had lost the election. There was to be no Brooklyn block party at the cross streets of President and Clinton and no celebration to be witnessed for the first female President of the United States. We all cried together and then I got ready for a day that included listening to countless news reports of, “I guess America was not ready for a woman President” and attending an emergency show meeting for a very depressed staff of late night.
Disbelief hung in the air on the New York City subway with the unanswered question of “Is this who we are?”
So here we are, eight years later and baring our t-shirts of “I survived the fire swamp”. We know too much now and he was so much worse than we ever could have imagined. He did exactly what Hillary predicted and even with a four year hiatus under the Biden administration the 2017 to 2021 rat bite still burns. So tell me, is America still not ready? Not sure? On the fence?
Too bad, because she’s going to win.
Kamala Harris will be the first female President of the United States because democrats will rally around her like they did not with Hillary Clinton. Even Bernie Sanders thinks Kamala is going to win and he is a huge reason why Hillary did not. The first time it really hit me that Hillary Clinton was in trouble was at 2016 Democratic National Convention where Bernie supporters were protesting her nomination. They yelled “Bernie or Bust” and “Lock her up” will full gusto. But THIS time will be different. This election has nothing to do with how republicans are voting and everything to do with registered democrats heading to the polls as a united front. You think Republicans are one issue voters? Talk to a democrat who can’t get past that one thing.
Joe Biden stepping down to make way for Kamala Harris is what we all dream for in our lives. An ally with all the privilege in the world clearing the way for our success as highly qualified women. We see and have felt it so few times in our lives that witnessing it on the world stage was one of the most beautiful acts I’ve ever seen (and yes, it took too long but it happened). I went through such a wave of emotion that it took me a couple days to really have any opinion on the matter. And then when I did, it sounded something like this:
“Ohhhh OHHHHHH waaiiiitttt ooooooohhhhhhh yesssssss YESSSSSS YESSSSSSS”
Kamala Harris is going to win because there’s no logical reason why she wouldn’t. Those days are gone. Everyone who can vote, and even those who can’t, will rally around her in these next few months. America loves to organize and watching women rally for Kamala has felt like a tectonic shift in the earth where everything just moved into formation. And I’m not going to amplify stupid outdated questions of “But can…..” Or “It’s never happened….” IT’S HAPPENING. Say it after me:
KAMALA HARRIS IS GOING TO BE PRESIDENT.
This is the only headline I ever want to read. It’s as simple as that because it was always meant to be - we just didn’t know it until right at this moment.
Let’s Go

My latest guest on the podcast How Dare You with Allana Harkin is the incredible artist and leader in Indigenous fashion Sage Paul. You do not want to miss this conversation where she explains the tradition of the Haudenosaunee matriarchy. You will long for this in your own life and will inspire you to vote for WOMEN.
What are you reading? I am finally reading The Covenant of Water and start thinking about when I will get to read it during the day and get excited.
Other summer books have included:
I’m Mostly Here To Enjoy Myself by Glynnis MacNicol (coming up on the podcast!)
I Hear She’s a Real Bitch by Jen Agg (Coming up on the podcast!)
Closer Together by Sophie Grégoire Trudeau (okay I read it in the Spring) (was on the podcast!)
This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune (yes yes yes you know it. She will be on the podcast)
haha I guess I love books?
Let’s me know what you are reading!
I am 100% with you on this. I keep thinking, at this time 8 years ago, we were watching Democrats tear each other apart, weakening whichever candidate (though clearly we knew which) would be our eventual nominee. NO MORE OF THAT PLEASE. We're in formation, we're thinking strategically, and if we have questions for her, we can ask them after November 6.
I’m going on vacay with my kids over Labour Day to Vancouver. Grabbing at least 2 of those reads. Nothing better than wine, sunset on beach, and a good book!!!!!
